    Some of my Lamprologus Meleagris/Stappersi

I love these guys. They are a shell dwelling species of Tanganyikan African Cichlid. I had four but my 55 gallon tank that they were in uncycled for some reason and killed two The remaining two are in a 20 gallon until the 55 is ready for them again. They are both males though (at least I am 99% sure they are) so they fight a lot. Here are some shots while they were fighting over shells.

In this last shot.. the two were locked together wrestling and they are SO fast when they do this so the picture is off.. but I still liked the way the fish looked stirring up the sand and all... so I'll keep it.

    Thanks for looking!

Those are cool-looking fish you have, Amber. I don't know much about fish but I used to work at a walmart that sold different colored cichlids which i thought were cool, but I don't think I ever heard of these kind. Very nice images!

I have issues with the whole walmart selling fish deal but I wont go into that. The type of cichlids that Walmart carries are generally malawi african cichlids. Usually just yellow labs and such. You would not find Tanganyikans in Walmart and certainly not shell dwellers. Most fish stores do not even have them. I have a rather good fish store tho so I am lucky. There are several varieties of Shellies, but I like these the best.

    Thank you for the compliment

    You're welcome
I think I understand what you mean - when i first starting working at walmart, the conditions of their fish were appalling, and there was only me and one other guy who cared anything about them. They have improved at this particular store, but I wouldn't consider the whole walmart corp. competent enough to sell any animals.
Yes do i remember them being called african cichlids, or are they all African species?

    LOL

You must not have had much contact with the customers either!

    My favorite questions this week:

How long does the one hour photo take?
What's a megapixie? (get that one ALL the time)
What a megaplex, and how does it effect my picture?
I want to get this film developed, do I leave it at the store?

They are all an African species, but the ones that they sell at Walmart are from Lake Malawi. The ones that I have are from Lake Tanganyika and there are others from Lake Victoria. THEN there are Asian Cichlids, Miscellaneous and I believe Madagascar.

THEN (lol) There is a whole nother species of Cichlids which are called American Cichlids and broken only into two areas. Central and South American. And I have had these too. My angel fish are American Cichlids.

There are a lot lol. Cichlids = aggressive. They are cichlids because of certain types of behaviors that they display.
