The Adder.
On a walk in the forest on my holiday this weekend, we came across this guy, well my dog did! the dogs were resting on a path while my husband was looking in the river for fish, and i noticed one of the dogs moving his head in a very jerky movement, then i noticed the snake inches from the dogs face, its head risen, and i think seconds away from striking, the dog was obviously in its pathway, fortunately i called the dog away risking it not biting, but i couldnt resist a few shots before it went on its way.

That's a new one for me also.
Nice catch Bev, and I'm glad your dog was not bitten.

Re: The Adder.
Awesome job panning with it on the 2nd shot. You'll make a great race car shooter one day bev =P

Re: The Adder.
Bev, thanks for the education. I too did not know that there were venemous snakes in the UK. I suspect that some of us across the pond tend not to think of these types of hazards elsewhere, except maybe down under.
Cheers,

Re: The Adder.
Doesn't look like a pitviper to me , BUT YOU ARE CORRECT.

Re: The Adder.
it didn't to me either, so i searched for it. in the first shot you can see the pits however. it looks alot liek a rat snake or even a pine snake to me.

Re: The Adder.
Thanks everyone for looking and commenting, yes this is our only wild venemous snake, and this one is only a juvenile, the adults are twice the size of this one.
Thanks Copy, i really thought the dog had had it this time, he would of been very poorly if it had, but we are going back this weekend for a few days and im going to be much more vigilant this time.
Jaedon actually iv always wanted to have a go at racing car meets, we have Brands Hatch and Snetterton not too far away but never had the time to do it.

Re: The Adder.
Great find and great shots too! That is one of my favorite UK snakes, the other being the common grass snake. All these photos are outstanding!! Maybe you need to stumble upon these little vipers a bit more often!

Re: The Adder.
Thanks Yarrow they do that to me a little, but i think its the fact that i know there bite is poisonous, but its like everything else, a lot of respect is needed for these guys, as i was in his habitat at the end of the day.
Thanks Erik im glad you approve, as your knowledge and photographs of these creatures have always inspired and amazed me, so thankyou. Im going back again on Friday for a few days so who knows what i may come across this time, as it was quite exciting when i found this one.
