I need to do this because i need a new camera:yesnod:, I bought the camera from a best buy and I bought a warranty for it i have 2 months left and I just want to take an advantage of the warranty i bought:smilewinkgrin:

Sure, start small with a camera and when it comes time for a new car you can torch that too. :frown2:

Welcome to the Forum. I'm don't have any specific advice to offer you, but this subject was the topic of a thread a while back. The thread turned into an ethics discussion if I remember correctly. I'll keep looking for it and post a link here if I find it.

Hmmm, sounds like a case for the fraud squad. You can't be too bright to come on a forum and post something like this, and if it were in the forum I run I'd delete the post. Hey, I know, I have a couple friends who work at BestBuy.......:p

That's an unhealthy way of thinking. It's called cheating. There's also another rule that applies here: You get what you ask for.

I had a friend who used to want to get hit by a car (in her car) so that insurance would buy here a new one. The problem with that is you don't consider all of the other consequences - a neck injury, a lost day of work, the hassle of dealing with the insurance company, a hit and run with no insurance...

So best to handle the need for a new camera the right way. Save up and buy a new camera. Or better yet - learn to use the one you have better. Most of us don't get the most we could out of our cameras or other electronics. We just like to get new stuff.

I think the real problem is that people who take advantage of the system may get something for free, but it comes at the cost of everyone else having to pay more. Just like internet fraud and other drains on society.

I have received a PM about it and I'm going to keep it open for the time being. If Photo John wants it gone I'll delete it, but (putting on the rose-colored glasses) maybe we can show "slieghty" the error in his/her ways.

actually, on second thought, just fill up a bucket with water and submerge it. that should take care of everything inside without showing anything on the outside.

"Inside" could include some sort of device showing that it had been wet which would void the warranty - I know cell phones have this...

Yep, I saw it first hand when my friend got his phone wet at a water park. It's like a pregnancy test, except all you need is water and a blue mark appears..

Since honesty does not seem to be one of your traits, why not go rob a bank instead and buy yourself a new camera with the loot. That way you can keep this camera as a back up and get a new camera without paying for it. :frown2:

How pitiful! Do you realize that someone is held responsible for numbers at this retailer? That person has sales, and profit goals, things like this cause harm to those people as well as the consumer.

Re: Who wants to break my camera??
Well by working at a retailer that sells warranty's I know this a way to sell them, however, not by me. Retailers are generally held accountable for sales and numbers for a relatively short period of time. Most of the time the warranty's are actually just over-glorified insurance policies. If someone does damage their camera, the retailer isn't responsible, only the insurance company who sold the warranty. Even if the camera is returned the retailer may not take such a huge hit. If it simpky doesn't work, the reailer can send the product back and get their money back so to speak. I'll admit that I started a thread like this not too long ago. However, some things in my life have changed. I have found out that a shiny new camera won't make me a better photographer, making better images will make me a better photographer. I know one day I will buy a digital SLR, keyword being buy. Right now I am sticking to my tri-x film and thinking of the next 24 or so images.

There are more important things than shiny DSLR's that canvtake thousands of photographs on a single card. Photography is about relationships. Making relationships with the things and people you photograph. Right now I am shooting with a camera that is much older than I am, and was given to me by a fellow board member, and I am loving every second of it. I am taking classes to learn more about photography. These are the things that are important.

So dude, learn how to truly use your camera, and then save some money and buy a DSLR.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I have been in a funk about the future of my photography, and I think this may have cured my illness.
