What wide angle Zoom for my Canon ?
I am very much a beginner.....but a fairly keen one!
I have a (digital) Canon G3 and a (SLR) Canon Elan 7e (equal to the EOS 30 I Think)
The lens that came with the body was 28 - 90mm.
I want to get a reasonably decent wide angle Zoom.......for landscapes mainly.
What would be recommended and where in the Uk/ ireland should I buy?
    Many thanks.

    Welcome
Love your country by the way.

To really provide meaningful feed back a price range would be helpful as well as how wide do you consider wide. I have a Tokina 19-35 zoom that takes pretty good pictures and is very reasonably priced at $190.00 US. Another option that is a much better lens, but also much more expensive would be the Canon 17-40L. It is about $690.00 US. Yet another choice, but even more expensive would be the Canon 16-35L at about $1370.00 US. Even though you specified zooms, there are primes out there that you could consider such as the Canon 20mm at about $420.00 US, Tokina 17mm at about $400.00 US, or the Sigma 14mm at $800.00 US.

For me, the Tokina 19-35 was the most logical choice given that I don't use it that much, but still wanted the option.

    Good luck in your decision.

the proud 45 owner has given you all the logical options! i too own the tokina(hardly used) since 400+mm is my daily focal length of choice. no complaints with the 19-35 tokina from me

    In addition...
Canon makes an EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 (B&H has it for $350)...

I use the 17-40mm f/4L , and am perfectly satisfied with it.

For the fixed option... I have the Canon 20mm and it is wonderful on film cameras. For reasons unknown, it stinks when used with digital bodies. But it's still a very good choice is you intend to stay with film for a while.
