What memory is needed for Nikon D80
In the Lexar and Sandisk brand of SD memory cards what model or speed 2gig card do I need to have a Nikon D80 work at its best and do you have a recommendation of the best place to purchase them. I think I would like to purchase two of them, Jeff

Two 2G cards would be a good choice, plenty of NEF shots with that. My digital stuff is old enough that I didn't see improvements with faster cards with shooting, but downloads are faster with faster cards. From what I read, you might not see any appreciable speed difference when shooting with any card on the market today. I usually bought one down from the top of the line (generally Lexar) but costs have come down so much that there isn't much of a price difference anymore.

I'm using 2 gig Lexar and don't remember the speed but they aren't the slowest nor the fastes they make. Never had a problem with them.
Last one I bought was at Walmart for 35 bucks. I also have a kingston which seems to work fine and probably cheaper just don't remember when or where I got it.
With a 2 gig card you'll get 165 shots in raw format.

The D80 takes SD Cards. My Daughter which has a D80 was at Fry's Electronics and they had some 2 GIG unknown cards and she has not had any problems.

I bought the Toshiba brand at Sams Club a year ago. Was the best price in town at the time. They work great and haven't seem to have any problems with speed on my desktop or camera.

The laptop, well that is another problem as it has USB 1.0. Yuck!

I own three of the faster Sandisk 2 gig cards and they work great with my D80. I bought them at Best Buy about 4 months ago when they were on sale. I think I spent under $30 for each one.

"I remember when" - I came across a receipt for my first digital and memory card. The card was a whopping 256mb and a speed of 24x, at a bargain price of $165 - five years ago. At that time, a low-priced laptop would have been cheaper than enough memory cards for a week's shooting!

Yes, I've heard some photographers had more money tied up in memory cards than they did camera/lenses.

i used some 150x transcend cards in my D80 and my buffer about 6-8 NEFs deep. with the slower 66x cards i had, the buffer was only around 3-4 NEFs deep.
