What do you do with your filters when not in use?

I am not sure if this is the right forum for this but mods can move it if not.

I am curious to know what people do with their filters, other than UVs, when the filters are not being used. Years ago when I bought filters for my film camera, the filters came in nice little boxes that could be used for storage. Today they come in plastic cases that are not always reusable. Any insight that anyone would care to provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The plastic cases mine came in are still usable. I think some people use filter wallets.

I have a filter wallet (case).
I keep mine in there inside my gear bag.

So, educate me, what is a filter wallet and where do you get one and what do they look like? Thanks.

Most of my filters sit in their plastic case on a table in my office when I'm not using them. This is most of the time! All of my Cokin filters came in plastic cases, and so did my polarizer and color enhancing filter.

I do have a filter wallet, but now that I think about it, I can't remember the last time I used it, or even saw it! I guess I should look for that tonight.

A filter wallet is basically a padded wallet with a bunch of pockets in it for putting your filters. They usually fold up and velcro shut to keep all of your filters in one place. The advantage of them is that you can get rid of all the plastic cases and keep all of your filters together, in one case.

Frog, Dave, Mike, thanks for the input. I don't think I have heard of filter wallets (obviously)...soooo I guess I will go to my local camera store and see what they have and how they work.

Mike, I can't have my filters sitting at a desk in my den because I need to take them with me when I am in the field...never know which one I will need so a filter wallet would seem the way to go.

I have nice little hard plastic Cokin cases that I stick all my filters in (even the non-Cokin ones :D).

I keep all cases and pouches that come with my filters, and the few I have that came with lenses that do not have cases get screwd onto others that came with soft pouches and stuffed in.

Every one is in my bag.

One really solid and secure way to carry filters is to screw them all together and put metal "stack caps" on the ends. In order to do this, they'll all have to be the same size or you'll need a step-up ring (a thread adapter, basically). Also, slim-mount filters won't work since they only have threads on one size. Lately, the only filter I normally carry is a polarizer and it stays in it's original plastic box.

When I'm not using my star effect, skylight and multi-image filters, I keep them in their little round plastic cases. They sit in a plastic drawer on my desk.

The multi-image one didn't come with a case, so its in a small plastic bag.:(

My polarizer and center-spot are stored in their round cases. I usually keep this two filters in my camera bag at all times. The UV Haze-1 is kept attached over my camera's lens.( Except when using converter lenses).
