Want to start taking studio portraits.

Okay here's my current equipment:

Yashica T4 Zoom (point and shoot)
Film

I wanted to take headshots/portraits of him and wanted to know the essentials I needed to start. The ice cream picture will be the kind I will be taking, BUT with a studio backdrop/backgroun (single color background).
