    Wacom - Intuos4

Hi came across a WACOM INTUOS4 in a shop. Does anyone use one and if so are they useful for post processing work with say Photoshop? I struggle doing finer detail work with just a mouse. What size would be good?

Are they worth the $$$ asked, not cheap...

    Thanks, S

I have a tablet, but it's not a Wacom. I bought it very cheap, $30, to play with to see if I liked it enough to shell out the money for a Wacom. I think mine is a 6x9. I still don't have the $ for a Wacom, but I do like using the tablet enough to purchase a good one. They work great for masking, and making selections in PS. Much easier to use than a mouse when it comes to PP work IMO.

They call it the "pen tool" for a reason, lol.

I have an Intuos3 6X8. I experimented with different sizes, and found the 9X11 too big ( I was using a lot of arm/elbow movement, and getting tired), and the 4X6 is just too small for detail work.

Is it worth the money? That would be a toss-up for me if all I used it for was photography. As Mike said, it's great for masking and selections. Being able to vary the opacity simply by changing how hard you push takes your layer mask, dodge, and burn work to a new level.

I find it particularly nice that it's bundled with a mouse. I still do probably 80% of my work with the mouse (using the tablet surface as a pad), but can switch to the pen simply by picking it up. From a workflow standpoint, I find that invaluable.

I use it all the time, I have two now one at home and at work.
It's eased my mouse wrist pain, with a bonus; selection and drag & drop is much easier.
It's a pain when I forget which pen I'm holding and try to write with the mouse pen.
Or to click with a biro.
