Using the "histogram"....
Hello all...I was talking with PJ this afternoon about how to use the histogram when setting up shots and he thought it was a good idea to post the question here. He is going to try to post some examples of ways to use it to take photos. Any other ideas and examples will be greatly appreciated. I know this has probably been posted a hundred times before...but it takes a mule's kick to get anything "into" my head, much less keep it there...hehe...

Historgram on your camera display?
Or, are you interested in the histogram shown by your phot-software?
Re: Using the "histogram"....
Good point. Although it's the same tool, it's used completely differently whether you're talking about in-camera (at time of exposure) or in post-processing software.
Re: Using the "histogram"....
John and I were talking about the "in-camera" histogram...for setting up your shots...I've played with the one PS Elements 2 and I think I'm starting to figure that one out...a bit!!! Like I said, it takes a mule kick to get anything through this skull!!! hehe...

An excellent tutorial on using the histogram can be found at:

Re: Using the "histogram"....
Thanx Michael...I'm going there now!!! I'll let you know how it works out!!! hehe

Hello all...just checked out the link in Michaels post. All I can say is.....WOW!!!!...Amazing how simple it really is once it's properly explained. The description on Luminous Landscape was very easy to read and many of the explanations were in "simplified" language, with great examples, which was perfect for me.
After reading the link, I got my camera and started playing with my histogram and tried the different histogram examples. Although I'm now going to need practice, the histogram is probably going to be displayed full time on my viewfinder!!!!
If you have any problems with histograms...please check out the link. It helped me understand!!!!
