    Usb

    Hi,

When a digicam says that it connects to the computer via USB, does that mean USB 2.0, USB 1.0, or both USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 will work? Thanks for your help.

Depends on your camera's USB port. If you have USB2.0 on your computer and USB1.0 on the camera it will still work though. If you have USB1.0 on the computer and USB2.0 on your camera then it won't work. Which camera is it and what is your computers USB ports ????

Most cameras except for the higher end ones recently released, eg Canon 350, 20D 1DmkII are USB 1. If you want to transfer your photos quickly to your computer then put a USB 2 card in the machine and buy a USB 2 card reader you will find it quicker and easier to do it that way and save on your camera batteries as well.

www.dpreview.com has reviews on most digital cameras in its review section. It should also be contained in the user manual for the camera.

I noticed you didn't mention what camera you were asking about !

Just wondering. If most cams are usb1.0, and so therefore assuming i get one of these usb1.0 cams, how would getting a usb2.0 port on my puter make the transfer faster? Wouldn't a usb1.0 from the cam goining into a usb2.0 port default to the weakest link and therefore just be a usb1.0 connection?

Yes, but I didn't say that. I said "Put a USB 2 card in you r computer and buy a USB 2 Card Reader and don't use the camera to transfer the files as it would be quicker with a card reader".

Actually, USB 1 ports do work with USB 2 devices. They just won't have the speed.

I missed the end of the line there Micheal, it should have ended with "at USB 2 though" only USB 1. Sorry about confusing the issue.
