    Remote shutter release

    Hey everyone...

I'm having a hard time w/ photography due to an autoimmune disease I've picked up. It causes muscle weakness and as a result I shake uncontrollably. I'm doing most of my shooting from a tripod, but just pushing the shutter button can move the tripod. SO, I've decided a remote control gizmo is in order. My questions are: What do you recommend and from where?

    Thanks!

    Amanda

    Re: Remote shutter release

Can't remember what camera you've got.
I use Canon's own release on mine.
And on the old P&S, Minolta's own release.
I don't use wireless, and guess that you don't need it either right now.

I guess sharing what camera I have WOULD be helpful! oops! My brain gets foggy from the disease and the high amounts of prednisone I'm on... That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!!! I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT...I'd like to order the remote gizmo online for convenience.

    Re: Remote shutter release

I have a Nikon and use a wireless remote myself.
Until you get a remote that works best for you, you can use the timer option.

    Nikon answer

I see you have a Canon Digital Rebel so this answer is just for any Nikon user that might pass by.

The low-end models have a little infrared remote control unit (ML-L3) which costs about $20. The range is limited in bright light but it works fine on my D70 and D60

The high-end models (D200 upwards) have a plug-in module to take Nikon's own remote releases (cable or radio), which are rather expensive. I have a Hama remote control release Ni-1 which cost me about $80 and works just fine.

    Re: Remote shutter release

I use both the Canon RS60-E3 wired remote: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Remote-S.../dp/B00004WCID

and the Canon RC5 wireless remote: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-RC-5-Wir.../dp/B00004WCCQ

Honestly, I prefer the the wired remote. The wireless only works in timer mode, while the wired is simply an extension of the shutter mechanism.

Hahnel and Hama make compatible releases, too.
Hahnel HRC 280 looks like it has adaptors for both the E3 and N3 connectors.
So it works with the D and the X series.

I have to agree with Medley on the RS-60E3. I have this one with my XTi and it is great.

    Re: Remote shutter release

I have the Canon RC-1 wireless remote for my XTi. I don't use it a lot, but it's nice when I do... You can set it for either for instant or 2 second delay. It works nicely, and can be used with the bulb setting (press once to open the shutter, press again to close it).

The only thing I don't like about it, which more has to do with the way the remote sensor is setup on the camera itself rather than the remote, is you generally need to be in front of the camera (or at least the remote) to trigger it. I often have to "shoot" the remote from above. I would be nice to have a remote sensor on the back or side.

And the price is quite nice, only about $20 bucks or so.
    Cheers,
    Greg

I bought their wireless and prefer it over the wired simply for the range.

    Re: Remote shutter release

If you're shooting something that isn't moving, I just use the self timer. I'm not familiar with that camera, but on a lot of them you can program the time amount down to about two seconds which is all that is needed. Nothing else to buy, replace batteries in, and carry...

    Re: Remote shutter release

Just get one of the cheap wireless rf ones from ebay.
They work fine and have much better range than the brand name ones.
