Trying to figure out a Lighting kit

Ok well first I will describe to you what my living conditions will be like.. I will be an RA for the dorms at my school so I have a pretty large room to myself. I wont have to pay for the electrical bill. And I plan on making my own backdrop. Right now I am pretty new to lighting, currently all I have is a Nikon SB-600 external flash. I guess what im confused about is what all I really need and whether I want strobes or continuous light.
