Toyo lenses ?

    Toyo lenses ?
    A friend is looking at a 500mm f8 toyo lense for a canon mount.
    I've never heard of them. Does anyone know anything about toyo lenses and whether they are any good.

    Never heard of them either. Sounds like a Mirror lens.

    If I remember correctly, I bought it 10-15 yrs ago for ~ $100 w/ Minolta mount but with a Nikon converter mount. It only works as aperature priority on my cameras.

    I found it worth the $100. It does what I expected of it. However, I hardly ever use it because to use it for sports, wildlife etc, you want a fast lens and it's max aperature is f 8.0. So if you plan on using it w/ very fast ASA/ISO setting and dont mind the fact that it can't blur the background (f 8.0 isn't much of a blur), I'd say yes.

    Oh btw it isnt a Mirror. It has settings for greater DOF too, up to f 32

    ok thanks. I should have said its from toyo optics which is different from toyo ___ which is a medium and large format outfit.
    Anyway she's in australia and is buying it so we'll find out what she thinks.

    Toyo is also a tire company. In fact, I have a set of Toyo Proxes 4's on my car.

    Strange, I got Toyo fitted for my day on track at SPa (photos to come in viewfinder).

    I've found there are several Toyo companies with different products.
    There's the tire company, another that makes lenses and other stuff for medium and large format cameras, and the one that the australian friend was asking about is made by Toyo Optics.
    She's getting the lens so we'll find out if its any good. Belongs to a photo community.
