    Is there any such thing?
    Hello to all,
I would like to get a small(point/shoot) digital camera for my wife.
She does not want to worry about "settings".

What are some models to consider for her birthday?

    Thanks to all.

as far as i know, every point and shoot has an AUTO mode. you can just leave the mode dial on this setting and the camera will figure out what is needed to get the picture. sometimes it might not end up as you wanted it, but overall the AUTO modes on new cameras are pretty good. you can just set it to AUTO and leave it there forever if you wanted.

i haven't used many point and shoot cameras, but i work at a place that sells a lot of cameras and i've heard good things about the canon SD series (SD1200, SD790, etc.)
but whatever your price range is, the camera you get will have an AUTO mode. and most point and shoot cameras in a similar price range are more-or-less comparable. just stick to well known brands (canon, sony, nikon, panasonic, fuji, etc.)

i can't really suggest a specific camera because there are just too many options. and like i said above, if all you're REALLY looking for is a camera with minimal settings then any camera will do because all you'd be looking for would be an AUTO mode, which they all have.

somebody else here might have more experience with different point-and-shoots and might be able to give you some specific suggestions.

I would suggest the G9 or the Canon sd 870 or 850 IS. They are light, very crispy photos and the IS is very very good. They have a good zoom range and offer sharp images thru it. http://www.snagpic.com/users/img/409...vnsn/clear.gif

i would definitely not suggest the canon G9 (or any of the canon G cameras). if you have a lot of extra money then for sure, go for a canon G camera. they are great. but those cameras are made for using manual controls and not the AUTO setting.

the G series cameras do have an AUTO setting, but they are pretty much the most expensive point and shoot cameras available. if you want to spend the money on one, you will definitely be happy with it. but for someone who only wants an easy-to-use camera with an AUTO setting, the G series camera are kinda overkill.

Thank you, ALL, these are over budget and I was thinking about one of the small ( cig. pack) size I've see others using.

    Thanks again, I'll keep looking.

The Canon SD line. But Panasonic is making some great cameras lately.

What about a camera phone like the Nikon N97 - takes nice pics. My wife has one.
