    taking pics from and airplane

    Im surprising my wife with a plane ride over kansas city and to see the plaza lights. wondering what are some tricks to use to photograph the ground and which lens would be best. if I use my 70-200 would I put it on Active for the VR? thanks gang your the greatist .lol:thumbsup:

    Yes Active mode would certainly be the best for VR. I think that Normal mode just tries to compensate for body movement when pressing the shutter but Active mode tries to damp out all movement.

    I've never done any aerial photography but I belive that the best approach is to use a fast shutter speed with the lens wide open to avoid vibration

    You said to see lights? If so you will need a fast lens and a camera with a high ISO as any shutter speed slower than 1/200 may give poor results, if it's in the evening.

    here in kansas city they decorate the Plaza with hundreds of thousands of lights since 1930's . here is a little video of what it looks like.

    There's a few good tips here. Chief of which is to talk to your pilot before hand, he may know a trick or two based on his experience. But the key is to arrive early so you're not rushed.
