Submerged memory stick

Is there any chance of recovering photos from a memory stick/flash card that has been completely submerged in water?

What about a point & shoot camera - has anybody ever had one completely submerged in water & what procedures did you use to save the camera?

I had a CF card go through both the washing machine and dryer. It wasn't intentional and I don't recommend it But the card still worked.

Try leaving your memory card and camera out exposed to low humidity, warm (not hot) air for several days. Take your battery out of the camera immediately. Most likely you have water between your lens elements and will need to be professionally cleaned. Probably a total loss unless it is really worth getting fixed.

I wash mine all the time. It'll be fine, just let it dry thoroughly as Loupey recommends.

For the memory I would try putting it in a bag with some silica gel or the desiccant of your choice.

As far as the camera is concerned, I will second the remove battery asap, let it dry (again with silica gel) and take to be repaired if necessary/financially wise. For a P&S it may not be worth it.

If it was SALT water, rise off the memory card/stick with clean water to get the salt off the card.

The camera most likely will never work as the water will cause electric current to flow to places it should not flow toasting ICs and over items.

Washed mine twice and lost it in the yard for 2 months and it still works

Unless the P&S is worth more then $150.00 I would just let it set and dry out for a wek or so then try it. It won't be worth getting fixed when compaired to what you could buy with the same money.

I soaked a c/f card while in my Fuji S2 last year. The card was fine after I let dry out for a few days, but the camera turned into an ugly paperweight. As freygr brought up, salt water is another matter.
