Something to lie on

I was outside working on my close-up shots, and the ground was wet. I took an old vinyl tablecloth, spread it out, and was able to lie down on it to take my shots. I don't know if anyone else does this or has tried it, but it's a handy thing to keep in the car for those times when you want to get to ground level and don't want to get dirty or wet.

I've been watching that thread in Site Feedback, but I don't think there's anything official yet. So for now, I'll leave this one here.

Good tip - I've heard of nature photographers that carry a plastic tarp with them for just that reason. A lightweight plastic one from a place like Home Depot is a good choice - the kind you'd use for covering furniture when you're painting. It will be inexpensive, small and light - and could be very handy in that situation.

I used to work in the same office as some architectual designers. When they'd cull out old carpet samples (about 2' by 2') I'd snag some before they hit the dumpster. I have a few of them stashed in my car, as well as some in my garage, hall closet, and basement. They cushion as well as keep the dirt off of me when I find some reason to be on the concrete or dirt.
