Something to do in the house?

Well i am gettin a bit bored in the house doing nothing every night, sitting here infront of the computer browsing the internet. I want to do something will my camera but theres not loads of things to photograph outside my house, so i was wondering if anyone has any ideas of something i could do with my camera in the house some techniques to practice or anything?

Any help would be appreciated

Here's an idea that I have heard on a photography podcast that I listen to. Lock yourself in the bathroom, and don't let yourself leave until you have taken 100 photos. It will force you to get creative and try shots that you might not normally think of.

You could also get a ball and roll it across the floor to practice panning shots.

Great idea - and you could even set up slow-sync flash but it would be pretty difficult to get everything to work at the right time and in the right place, so it's a challenge!

Check out some of the books by Freeman Patterson, might be just what you're looking for. Surfing the 'net can be helpful but also expensive - eventually you wind up on ebay, and the rest is history...

Thats a good idea acutally i like the panning idea aswell. Do you get the results because i have been thinkin of a shot i can take to show speed, would panning 1 car on the motorway next to all the others potray speed quite well do you think ?

Also with panning do you use a slowish shutter speed ? and also i don't understand how my camera shutter speeds are like 1,1.5 and stuff how does that relate to like when people talk about 1/1000 ? how do i convert ?

How about taking photo's of all the valuable items in the house for insurance purposes. Allows you to practice lighting, still life, modelling...

There is a lovely book called Home Photography by Andrew Sanderson.

It's mostly philosophical, but as with the Freeman Patterson books is about the philosophy of seeing. I eat that stuff up.

The author sets little toys and household items up, silverware, balls of twine, twigs..his children..just his home, as it is, and makes the most gorgeous, intimate photos...

maybe not what you have in mind, but..

Sit in a spinning computer chair, spin and take self portraits.

That's a great thing to do when you're bored, gives you a great reason not to get bored.
