Re: Smudge? What is this.
Dumb question maybe but does it show on other pics?
Re: Smudge? What is this.
No - that's a good question. With water blowing around like that, it could be a drop on the front of the lens but you probably would have noticed that later when you put the lens cap on. I've had stuff like that show up before but it goes away when I clean the sensor with a Giottos Rocket Air blower. Since you've never removed the lens the sensor should be clean, but it's still a possibility.
Re: Smudge? What is this.
the lens doesnt have to be taken off for dust to get inside, the zoom of the lens somewhat acts as a vaccuum and pulls stuff inside the camera. if youre not using a zoom, then im not sure.
Re: Smudge? What is this.
Try taking several pictures at different focal lengths. If the smudge moves then it is a problem with the lens. If it stays in the same place then you should try cleaning your sensor. You could also just try a different lens.

I've got something exactly like that on my 300D.
But its in the left.
I've tried and tried again to get that out with my Rocket Blower, but its still there.
Re: Smudge? What is this.
looks like some dust on the sensor to me. small little hairs will look like that, I've gotten a few of those on my cameras. as someone said, you dont have the take the lens off for dust to get inside. sometimes cameras even come with dust pre-installed!
