Shallow Depth of Field - Help!
Hoping there is someone out there that can assist! I have not been able to figure out how to set for shallow depth of field on my Lumix DMC-FS20. Panasonic actually addresses it on their website, but the instructions are the worst. Anyone?

I don't know if your camera will allow you to do that. Perhaps setting it to macro mode will open the aperature up..some cameras do that.

    Lisa -

According to a review on DigitalCameraReview.com,

"What you won't find here, however, are aperture or shutter controls of any kind: in spite of its serious look and feel, the FS20 remains, as suggested, a true point-and-shoot in most ways."

The article doesn't specify the modes, but more than likely your 'portraiture' mode if it has one of those will make the DOF very shallow. Sort of the inverse of 'Landscape' or 'Scenery' mode, which uses a deeper DOF.

Hope this helps. If it does, do a few expts and see. Also note that if you take a shot of something at the infinity lens setting, using a shallow or deep DOF will probably not make any difference in what you see!

Does not mean you cannot get what you want though. Depending on what software you use, you can still get the look you want.
