    Submitting Pictures to a paper?

I have been asked to submit some pictures to a local paper, but am unsure what format to send them. All they said in their email was to send them "High Resolution" pictures to be used.

Would any one know what is considered a "High Resolution" picture would be as far as size goes. Would this be a RAW type file or a JPEG type file or either, and then how big of file KB size is too much.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Re: Submitting Pictures to a paper?

I sent some fire pics to a local paper last fall and asked them what they wanted and they said to send if full sized. I sent about 5 or 6 shots and it took forever and that's with cable
    I'd shot in jpeg fine.
    You can't send raw files.
Your best bet is to call them and ask.
Make sure your name is on the photos.

    Thanks Frog!

This may be a dumb question but how do you put your name on the photo?

    Thanks!

All the stuff I submit has been in jpg (for magazine and newspaper print).

For the sportswire we even try to keep our file size around 2 megs -- so I resize to 2000 pixels (longest dimension). Newsprint isn't very high resolution -- so resizing isn't much of a problem. Like it was mentioned above- call the newspaper photo editor or art director for particulars.

When I submit to magazines directly -- I send full resolution (just remember not to attach more than one file per email (if they don't give you access to an ftp site). I blew my first magazine sale a couple of years ago because I attached 4 full resolution files to one email and it couldn't get through the magazine's email server. Ooops!!!
