Rubbish photos - is my camera knackered?

Hi

My photos have started to look well over-exposed or just damn strange...
Here's a good one and a bad one. Fuji 2600Z, everything set to Auto...
I have attached 2 photos - taken about the same time.
Occasionally a photo turns out right - like one of these 2 - but that is a rare occurrence nowadays...:-(

It's possible for the camera to lose it's ability to meter and expose correctly. As I recall, isn't this an older (by digital camera standards) model, released circa 2002? Call the local Fuji repair facility and get a quote for repair/recalibration, and see if it's worth the repair/cost of labor, and shipping. Might be time for a new camera

It looks to me as if the flash fired in the second photo, and not in the top one.
If the camera was set for flash but it didn't fire, that might exmpain the odd colours in the top picture.

Could it possibly be dependant on what your camera happened to choose as an AF point? I know you weren't going for this but I actually like the first one better.

The first one looks "stylized", like it was worked on in Photoshop. Seems like there's more than just the flash not going off - see the green in the table edge at the bottom right? Also the green bottle and other spots look strange. Cool but strange, and if that's not the effect you wanted then it's a problem.

BTW, it's easy to tell the flash went off in the second shot because you can see the highlights on the glass, where the flash was reflected.

So what do you do? I guess first I'd look thru the manual and make sure all the settings are right. If it has a "reset" back to original settings when it shipped from the factory, do that. Recharge or replace the battery.

If that doesn't do it and you want the problem corrected, you'd probably be farther ahead to replace the camera. A camera that's a few years newer and half the money will probably be at least as good - especially in the case of the less expensive ones.

Don't think it's anything to do with focus or flash - I mean, purple ketchup?!

Actually the good photo doesn't look too good either...see the purple under the ketchup and on the near side of table...

Time for a new camera then.

This picture shows the problem more succinctly - check out the fingers - this is not an exposure problem, is it?

Not an exposure problem! Sure, it's a little light but some overexposure won't cause that.

This is the same thing that happened to my canon D30. You have a loose wire inside your camera. i had to crack mine open and find it, though I do not recomend this to just anyone, but it was fairly simple.


Here is what mine looked like,

Note the posterization/rainbow effect. This was taken just after I fell off my bike. The event that caused the connection to loosen. This was not the worse of it, but it was the only one i could find.
