Recovering files.... from disk
So in my last post I asked about which Memory card you used that was because my 4GB hitachi (IT was actually my Father in laws and I borrowed it... that should teach me)took a POOP! (trying to be calm)... someone said you can maybe recover some of the images...( I did view them one time, on a different computer!) I would love to do this rather than reshoot.. the horse is a pain in the booty to work with... how would I do this... so far I put the stupid card in the reader and the computer does not even recoginze it is there... argh!... how would I try to save these files?... HELP! BY the way IF anyone is considering the hitachi 4GB microdrive... DON"T it is a peice of work... this is the second one to conk out on me...
thanks Melissa
Re: Recovering files.... from disk
If you put it in your camera, are you able to view the photos? If so you could probably hook your camera up to the computer & transfer the files over that way.
Re: Recovering files.... from disk
NO my Nikon D70 is telling me that it is PLLLLTTTSSSWS! oh I mean it says CHA... whatever that means BUT i translate as YOU are SOL!
Re: Recovering files.... from disk
Do a web search, there is some software to recover USB drives that cook, I had a 4GB Lexar do it. I don't remember which one I used, and if it was a few bucks or not. It worked well.
Re: Recovering files.... from disk
When I bought my last SanDisk card, it came with software called RescuePro. It is not a SanDisk product, but if you Google it then you may find the source. Also, you may be able to find some shareware of freeware, that will help, on the net using Google. HTH

Re: Recovering files.... from disk
r_w, WesternGuy - Big problem is, this is not a USB drive, nor is it a memory card.
This is a microdrive.
A CF type II size hard drive with data incredibly tightly packed onto a miniscule spinning magnetic disc. Like bigger hard discs, it's not very keen on being moved while switched on and spinning, let alone knocked.
The first challenge is to get it recognised by the computer as even existing !
Melissa:
What card reader are you using?
Is the microdrive horizontal or vertical when you try to read it?
Can you hear it go click and whirr as you (carefully!) plug it in to the reader?
Does it continue to spin and whirr when you try to read it?
Re: Recovering files.... from disk
Microdrive!! I really did not know these things existed, now I do. One thought! If you know where it was purchased, maybe they can help you. Alternatively, maybe you can find something on Hitachi's website to help you. Don't know what else to suggest...

Re: Recovering files.... from disk
There are free file recovery programs. You know that windows will automatically copy or move photo files off removable drives (solid state or micro drives) depending on the settings on that computer.
Re: Recovering files.... from disk
Thank you all I have tried and tried ... I think I am just Out of luck... sigh!.... well at least it was not a paying job...
Re: Recovering files.... from disk
This is the reason that MDs have pretty much died as a species... they tend to die.
With how cheap flash is these days, there really isn't a point anymore.
