re-sizing

Took pics of charms for a friends web site.
They said their web guy wants them no larger than 100 pixels.
This gives me a picture so small it can't be seen and if zoomed on is a blurry mess.

Is this standard? Is there a way to resize them to that size?
I'm taking the results over now..Thankfully I still have the full size images.

Hey Frog,

Your avatar photo is smaller than 100 pixels for reference. For a web site that is a bit small unless it is for something like catalog entries or 'thumbnails'. Could they mean 100dpi and not 100 pixels along the long edge??

Can the small images be linked to a full-size or just a larger version that is hosted elsewhere?

When you say resize are you starting with a 'full size' and then using a resize command/operation in an editor (like Photoshop, PaintShop, etc) that is optimized for down sampling? There are slight differences in how the images are crunched with different options. It should be quite sharp, but a lot of detail may of course be lost.

100px is a thumbnail basically. unless it is a link it cant be that useful IMO

Hadn't thought about the avatar thing and you're right. Also shots from a couple years ago that I did some editing on were 100.
Talked to the web site developer today and he said to make sure they were 72 dpi.
I thought the more dpi the better so that shows what I know as I saved them at 300.
Going to downsize again tonight, hopefully with better luck. I'm using photoshop elements 6

Evidently they won't be linked to a larger size, though I suggested that and they may do it eventually.
The ones they have up now are basically thumbnails but still easy to see what they are.
I'll come back to post the results.

Actually, the DPI doesn't matter at all as long as they remain in the digital. - TF

Well if you have many photos, you can batch-process them in photoshop real easily... Set the resolution width and height then just choose the DPI... Unless you wanted to crop/ re size them one at a time... that can take awhile.
