    Cleaning the gunk

Isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) can be used with a swab - it's one of the only solvents that's safe to use in contact or proximity to electronics. No need to get it all out (you can try of course), just make sure your contacts are clean.

After you get most of the residue out, with rubbing alcohol, you can use some very fine sand paper, like a nail file would be perfect, to clean the contacts off . Just enough to see the shiny metal surface and they will be able to make good connection with the battery. Turn it upside down after and blow out whatever remaining dust and residue with a squeeze bulb or some sort of compressed air.

Thanks so much you guys for posting this info! I thought I had heard to swap rubbing alcohol, but i wasn't really sure at all. This has been *VERY* helpful !

Now, I actually get to play with my new flash........

    Thanks Again,
    Rachel
