Rain Cover for Body and Telephoto lens?

Im having a hard time finding a rain cover that will fit my sony a700 camera body with 70-200 2.8 lens. I went outside in the pouring rain today and put it in some plastic bag and used a lens filter to sandwich some plastic between the lens, and it worked! This helped but rain droplets can get in very easy and ruin my camera.
Does anyone have good experience with a rain cover that will protect every part of the camera including the lens. I dont want the lens portion to be exposed to water droplets when I point it upwards to the sky.

I use the same Optech rainsleeve with my Canons. Use the lens hood and a rubber band to keep it snug on the front end. Works great even in driving rain. Just keep it angled slightly down to keep rain/mist from reaching the front element.

Can't really beat it for the price.

FWIW, my 50D has been used in relatively heavy rains more than a couple times without any protection. It can hold up to a surprising amount of rain. I don't think I can draw a similar conclusion about your Sony however (I don't know how they're constructed).

I bought Olympus top-of-the-line gear specifically because it's weatherproof. I've had it in some SERIOUS downpours without a glitch. And I know olympus will repair/replace it if the weather sealing fails. While it's not a great solution for your sony, your shooting style might suit a different system better.

Two things will help here

Firstly, are you using a lenshood? That helps shield the front element from rain

The other is a good cover. The optech one is a good just in case one, the sort you keep in your bag every day. These are semi disposable. A higher quality cover is the Kata system

I've used the Optech sleeve in heavy rainstorms at races, and had no camera problems.
It's not meant to fit the camera exactly, but to allow room to operate it inside the cover.
If it works with my Canon 1DmkIIN it should work with any Sony.
Use a lens hood on your lens, and attach the hood slightly beyond the end of the hood, you may need ot carry some elastic bands, or electrical tape (I always do just in case).

Thanks guys. Ill try to use the optech rain cover again. I am using the lens hood.I have to admit im a little hesitent about the front element being exposed but I think I can deal with it.

Just don't point straight into the rain :)

If you put something over the front element, you're affecting image quality.
Maybe if it's an expensive multicoated filter, then not by much.

I looked around and I read many stories and photos of alpha cameras with lenses in rain storms.
They say Sony doesn't officially say the lenses are weather sealed but they seem to do well in the rain especially internal and fixed zoom lenses. I will still use the rain coat for extra measure. I think all my worries disappeared lol
