A question about Compact Flash card
I just bought a new notebook with a 8-in-1 card reader that's supposed to read, among other things, Compact Flash cards. I have some experience with memory sticks and connecting a point-and-shoot digital camera to a usb port on a pc for download. When I've done that, the memory stick appeared as a separate "drive" in Windows Explorer. Is this how the card reader will appear? If so, I know that I can download data off the CF card, but can I copy data to it, as well?

    Thanks.

The reader itself won't appear as a device - it will show up like you've seen once there is a card in it. And you can write information to it just like any other storage device.

It probably will show up as several drives as you have an 8 in 1 card. When I connect mine, I get one that is for all the card fromats, sm/sd/cf/ms/xd, so you will more than likely have to select the second of new drives (mine is this one for my CF cards). Don't forget to stop the card reader if you are going to disconnect it from the computer when not in use.

I just bought an 8-in-1 and it appears as FOUR drives. Some slots are used for more than one format, since there are only 4 holes in the front, I guess it's one hole per drive :)
You shoudl be able to read and write to any card in any of the slots as a disk drive.
But it may not be possible to use more than one slot at a time.
Mine won't do CF and SD at the same time even though they are in different holes.

    Hi all,

I have a SmartDisk and I can copy between the different card formats. Mine is about 3 years old and is 7 in 1.

Shows up as 3 devices and only 2 slots in the front.
