    Question Question about Body/Lenses

Hello. I have a question about lenses that go with bodies. I used to have a Nikon D50 and do have some D1's from back when they were popular. I have a large collection of lenses that go with these cameras. I then purchased a D40 not knowing that my lenses for the previous cameras work. I am now looking to buy a camera that does work with the lenses. What are cameras that would work with my lenses?

    Re: Question about Body/Lenses

Well, your lenses work but don't auto-focus and maybe don't meter.
    I believe anything D70 and up will work...D80, D90, D200, D300.

Frog - yes thats what I meant. The auto-focus won't work. My macro lens does not work AT ALL with the D40 and I do a lot of macro photography and haven't been able to do any of it with the D40.

    Thanks for your prompt response.

    Re: Question about Body/Lenses

If I remember correctly, the D40 does not have an auto focus motor built into the body, where most of Nikon's other cameras do. This is why your lenses won't AF with the D40 body.

Mjs is right....The d40, d40x, d60 bodies do not have auto focus motors in their bodies and thus rely on the motor being in the lens...afs lenses.
I think you'd be much better off if you have that many lenses to upgrade your body.

    Re: Question about Body/Lenses

Thanks for the suggestions. I AM upgrading the body (as I did not know about the AF thing until AFTER I bought the D40) as I have many lenses go with the other bodies. I have already put up the D40 on ebay. I still kind of find it a stupid decision for Nikon to make a camera that does not have an internal AF motor and I am glad to get rid of it.

It kept the cost down and encouraged buying of newer lenses.
What body are you going to?

The Fujifilm S2, S3, & S5 pros will also work with all your lenses and are a smaller hit to the wallet than the D100, D200, D300
