Nikon 70-200 2.8 G VR compatible with F5 body?

Hello,
I own a photographic lab. I have a customer who is having problems with her film being over exposed. She's using the Nikon F5 body with a new 70-200 VR Zoom. She's shooting in manual mode with a studio strobe connected to the camera. She sets the shutter speed on 60 and the f-stop on 8 as indicated by here flash meter. Her film (T-Max 100) is always overexposed by 3 or 4 stops. She's tried bracketing the f-stop but the film is always the same. The f-stop is not changing in the lens. Is this lens compatible with this camera in manual mode since there is no apature ring on the lens? Thanks.

This lens is compatible with an F5; the aperture is adjusted on the body instead of the lens.

If the exposure on film is the same regardless of the f-stop used, then there's a problem with the lens. This rules out setting the meter at the wrong ISO, etc. One thing you can always try that fixes more things than you can believe is putting in new batteries (or charging it if it's the rechargeable pack). Cameras do strange things with low batteries.

I take it that other lenses work fine on this body. Is this a new lens? Does it work without strobes (like shooting outside at f5.6 or so, available light only)? Does it work on other cameras? Stop it down a few stops and hit the DOF preview to see if for some reason the aperture blades aren't opening and closing.
