Please help me find

A new or used digital P&S with a fixed 28mm or 35mm lens. One that has a vew finder, and hopefully an aperture/speed priorty and manual option. And finally, one that is not too expensive (less than $500.) Can anyone help me please? I know this is askin a lot, but this is what I'm looking for.

Unfortunately that's an unusual request with digitals, as you've probably seen. Newer digitals have better and bigger screens so they're not bad in everything except the direct clear mid-day sun - which isn't so good for photography anyway. Sometimes LCD brightness can be adjusted too (up for visibility, down for battery savings).

But if you want a true optical viewfinder I'm not sure where to steer you. I'd look at Ricoh since they've had some interesting cameras over the years. Sounds like the Leica M series is right up your alley but nowhere near your budget amount (or I'd have one too!).

For your budget amount, I bought a Panasonic Lumix LX3 which I really have grown to love. Not what you're looking for since it only has an LCD and has a zoom, but still it might be worthy of a look. What did it for me was the Leica 24mm f2 lens (equivalent focal length, of course). Also it shoots 16:9 as a native format which makes the wide angle of view seem even wider. It does shoot RAW but the included software is a joke; jpegs are beautiful from it.

Don't know that it fits all your criteria, but I will be purchasing the Canon G10 for an upcoming trip.
