now shooting RAW (NEF), but...

I have started shooting in Nikon RAW, and I have Nikon Capture. Capture is good for some things, but I need to able to work on soem images in PS7. after I have opened in capture, how do I save the files so that I can open and manipulate these same images in PS7.

After you've done the conversion, save as a TIFF file. I recommend this because there is no compression like with JPEG, where each time you save the image you will lose some data. Open the TIFF in PS and do your magic, then save this as the "master" file, still as a TIFF.

From there, you can safely make a JPEG copy of the file (be sure to Save As!) and keep compression at 12 which is the highest quality level. This JPEG would be the one to print from. You could print directly from the TIFF, especially if printing yourself. Some labs don't like files that big, and frankly you're very unlikely to see a difference in quality either way.
