    Nikkor lens compatibility?
First off, forgive me for ignorance on this topic and thank you in advance for your response. I have a Nikkor 70-300mm F/4.0-5.6D-ED AF lens which is intended for use with a 35mm SLR. Now, can I use this lens on a digital SLR. If so, which are the compatible ones. I appreciate your help!!!!

Probably. Nikon hasn't changed mounts in forever.

Just one thing, It won't autofocus if you get the D40, D40X or D50. Any other Nikon cameras are good.

Yup - that would do it. Same mount for almost 50 years! Of course there are some compatibility problems but almost all of them will work together. The AF possibility mentioned above should be the only issue.

It should autofocus fine on the D50 which will work with any Nikon AF lens. I used a Nikon 35-135mm f/3.5 - 4.5 AF lens with no problems at all when I had my D50. It's just the D40/D40x that it won't autofocus on.

Here's a lens compatibility chart for reference.

Oops - sorry - thought both the D40 and D50 were AF-S only. Great chart!
