Nikkor 28-105 question

One of my favorite lenses is my Nikkor 28-105. Great lens, but I've noticed that I often get softer images around the 105 range. Shutter speeds fast enough, etc.

Has anyone noticed a problem with auto-focusing error or something along those lines with this lens? It's strange because I usually get really sharp shots from this lens.

I've had it for a while, and I do notice that it's just a little soft at 105. Not too bad though - although if I need that length I'm usually going for the 80-200. It's a pretty good lens overall, and now with shooting digital I tend to use the wider end of it more anyway so it's less of a problem. The only annoying thing about it is the hood!

I usually shoot without it.
