Minolta Maxxum 7000i lenses with digital SLR body?

Hello everyone, I'm Airsupport. This is my first post, so hello everyone.

As you can tell by the title of my post, it's been a while since I've picked up my camera. I was an avid photojournalist in high school and college, and freelanced for the local daily and my college weekly.

I have a Maxxum 7000i with two factory zoom lenses and one third party (Sigma) lens. I'd like to get into digital photography, but I don't want to have to rebuy all my lenses. Does anyone make a decent digital SLR body that accepts the same lenses as the 7000i? Autofocus support is not a prerequisite for me. I like manual most of the time, anyway.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    AirSupport

    Welcome to the forum,
The camera is Sony Alpha A-100, and old Minoltas Maxxum 5D and 7D.
There's a very good pro review on this webpage:

You won't regret if you get the A-100 ... it's a very good camera.

Excellent! THank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for.

Just out of curiosity, does it support autofocus in the Maxxum lenses?

Thanks again. You have helped me revitalize something I love.

Re: Minolta Maxxum 7000i lenses with digital SLR body?

I'm not an expert in Minolta lenses, but if all the Maxxums are the same, then the answer is yes. I would think that all the lenses from Minolta with autofocus would work on the A-100.
So far I have the Minoltas 50mm f/1.7, the beercan (70-210 f/4), a quarantay and a sigma for Minolta and they work 100%. The last 2 where the lenses of my wife's Maxxum.

BTW, Sony will release two more cameras maybe by the end of the year, maybe early 2008, and of course it is implicit that they will accept Minolta af lenses.

Check more on the Sony forum, and if you post your questions there they will receive more atention (regarding Minolta cameras/lenses and the a-100).
