    memory card speed
    I'm getting ready to purchase a Nikon D50 package and have the choice between a standard Delkin 1Gb SD Memory card and a SanDisk 1GB Ultra SD Memory Card for $30 more. Looks like the Delkin speed is 2Mbs and the Sandisk is 9-10Mbps. What camera performance does this affect and is the Sandisk worth the extra $30?

    The write speed is only useful IF your camera can actually write at that speed to the card. I have the standard speed, 40x 80x and Extreme III cards and the old 1D can only write at 40x max, while the new 1D MKII N will write to the Extreme III card no problem. I don't think the D50 will write even at 40x so I would waste the extra $30 for it.

    That being said...consider your future purchases. Are you going to purchase something in the near future that will handle the faster card. If not...then go for lesser one!!!

    Faster speeds are also good to use when using a USB2 card reader as well.

    There probably won't be a huge difference in speed that you'll see in the real world between those cards. If you have a really fast camera, shoot sports and often fill the buffer then fast cards can solve that problem.
