    Uploaded pictures distorted

When I upload pictures from my camera I get this:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...tar/Image1.png
I had another camera do the exact same thing a few years ago on the same computer, but I just gave up with it. Anyone know what I can do to fix it?

Looks like it's time for a new camera. I'd say that the sensor or some other major part of the camera is shot, and unless it's under warranty it's very doubtful that it would be worth fixing. You could ask the manufacturer about it - a few cameras have had service advisories (basically a recall without the notification).

It's a brand new camera, the one I had before was also. They were both different brands. I've not had any success uploading any photos to my computer.

Did you use the same memory card in both cameras? If so you might have a bad one.

I would have guessed faulty camera or memory card myself. Heres what I would do:

    1. Right mouse click on your desktop. Select Properties and check your Settings. Make sure it has 32 bit selected. Judging form your screen shot and your desktop Im guessing that is already set correctly.

    2. Next I would update your video card driver.

    3. Update Monitor driver.

Back up a second - do the pictures look OK on the LCD screen in the camera before you download them?

I don't see how your computer's video driver would affect only your camera photos and not the entire monitor. The problem would seem to be with the photo files. As was asked above, do the photos look alright when you review them on your camera's screen? If not, the memory card could be toast or you might just be getting corrupted files and need to use your camera's menu system to reformat the memory card.

The camera I'm using now, yes they look perfect on the screen of the camera. This one uses a memory card and the other one didn't.

I'd say that we can pretty safely rule out the cameras and memory cards as being the problems. How are you downloading your images?

Please let us know your workflow - this is the term used to describe how you handle your digital images from camera to final product. For example, after shooting I take the memory card out of my camera, put it into a USB2 card reader and make a new file in my PC with the date and description of the images. Then I go to My Computer, select all the images on the card and then COPY (not move) the images to that new folder. From there, I remove the card from the reader (using the disconnect feature in Win XP first), put it back in the camera and format the card (actually I format the card just before I use it again, that way I have another backup copy at least for a short time). I haven't had any problems doing it this way but there are several ways to do this and they all should work.

Okie uhm.. lol. I took some pictures, plugged it in to the USB then into my camera. A window comes up and asks if I want to copy the files to a new folder or do several other things with them and I pick copy to new folder. Then a window comes up and.. well.. Here's a picture.

In the second picture it shows a lot of weird files.. I only took 2 pictures and only 2 show up in the camera.
Something that might have something to do with it that I haven't thought of until now is that my USB ports aren't high-speed.. I don't know if that is or isn't something that would affect it but it has affected other things before..

That probably is the problem if they arent high speed. Do you have access to another computer that does have a USB2 connection where you could try it? You can always pick up a high speed USB 2.0 expansion card from staples for $25. Just make sure you have room for more cards.

    Re: Uploaded pictures distorted

If your computer is fairly new then it probably is already USB2, but even if not and it's USB1.1 it should download just fine (although slower). The only difference that I had by putting in a USB2 PCI slot card was that I could download a gig in several minutes instead of starting it and then letting it run for a while...

Try downloading your images like I do it which does not use the MS Wizard. I don't know that this is the problem but it's worth a try. Plug the cable in to connect your camera to the computer. Make a new folder in My Pictures or wherever else you want it. Go to My Computer from the Start menu and find the camera. It's probably shown as "E: USB Mass Storage Device" or something close to that. Double click on it, then you'll probably have to double click a couple more times to get to the actual image files. Click once on one of them, then press CTRL + A to select all of them. On the left, you'll see "Copy files..." and click that. Then in the window that this brings up, find your new folder (in My Pictures, etc). When it's done, close all that out, disconnect the camera and look at that folder. Did that fix the problem?

If you've had problems with USB2 vs. 1.1 before, try to do this on a computer with USB2 as well. The only problem I had with USB2 is that my iPod doesn't work with my USB2 card. Apparently the reason for that is that USB2 isn't native to my computer so it wouldn't see the iPod connected that way. I use USB1.1 for it and it works fine (slow but fine). As long as the computer can see the device it should work with the only difference being speed, but we all know how "should" works with computers...

It's a VistaquestVQ5010, I don't have any room for more cards ; ;, and going to my computer to the pictures shows the exact same freaky files that it showed in the other thing. I'll have to just wait until move back into my dorm to get to a computer with a USB2 to see if it works. My Ipod doesn't want to work on my computer either lol.

Did your camera come with a CD? If so did you install the software and drivers for the camera. This is important as some of the drivers may add software to see the thumbnails properly on your PC. This is due to compression/encryption software they use in the camera.

Seems more like a USB issue with the info up until now. This might help:

    1. Go to the control panel, then system/hardware/device manager then scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controller. If there is a yellow explanation point next to it you can tell there is a problem right away. Regardless, click on the plus to expand category and there should be an Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller. Enhanced is USB 2.0. If you don’t have it then its most likely not USB2. If you do, right click and go to properties. Click the Troubleshoot button and take ot from there.

    or

    2. Is your current USB ports part of the computer case or is it an expansion card? If its an expansion card you can take the card out and leave it out. Boot up your computer then turn off the computer and put the card back in. That does a few things, cleans the contacts to fix a faulty connection and hopefully when it boots back up it will say it found new hardware and install new drivers.

Yesh it came with a CD and I installed everything on it. I don't have USB2 thingie, and it's not a card. I'd have no idea where to look for it but I know I have 3 slots and they're a phone jack thingie, my graphics card, and my wireless antenna thingie. I did try to upload the pictures to my sister's ancient computer and of course, it worked. That computer is at least 5 years older than mine and had windows 98 or 95.. It has one USB port lol. I'm sure my computer is just crazy and I've pretty much given up trying to figure it out.. Computers.. lol. Thank you all for you help, though and if anyone else thinks of anything I'd be willing to try it

Have you tried a different USB port on the computer? Once again I doubt this will fix it, but worth a try...

Do you have a USB connector on your PC and are you using Windows XP. I have gotten confused,

If not how did you get the information from your card onto your PC?

If it works on your sisters machine then the card and camera are fine. It's how you get the information off the card onto your PC that's causing the problem. Did you connect the camera to your sisters PC or a card reader? Try the same on your machine if you have USB.

If you have the USB port whether V1.1 or 2.0 is irrelevant. connect the camera directly to the PC and use the software you got with the camera to download photos from the camera. If these are ok then it's great

if not: Disconnect the camera. Remove the software from the PC. Re-install and follow the instructions on the screen. It should ask you to attach the camera at the end of the process once its installed the USB drivers. If this works great.

If not: borrow another USB device and see if it works on your PC, a Memory stock would be good especially if your using XP as it will see it as a disk. Make sure there is nothing on the stick that you need to keep. Try copying file onto the stick and from the stick. If this works then there is a problem with the installation of the software.

If the above still doesn't work let me know and we'll try some other things. Or if you have a friend whose good with computers ask them to take a look.

it looks to me like a faile USB port scrambling the data.

Either a new USB controller card ..... or a new computer =P ... may be the fix you need. The fact that it worked just fine on your sisters computer even with only 1 USB port and being obviously not USB2 on her machine tells me that the USB ports/ port on you machine are toast.

I've got two connectors in the back, and two in the front. I've tried them all. I'm using XP. On my sister's computer I did the same thing I've been doing to my computer. Installed the CD program and drivers then plugged in the camera to the computer. I'm confused by what you mean by this part,
    "

I'm going to take a guess and give you this, I got an Ipod the other day and tried it on my computer, it works fine on other computer but when I upload songs to it on this computer, it completely ruined it and now it won't work on any computer lol. I swear my computer hates USB things. I'm using a wireless keyboard and mouse thingie and that receptor is connected to one USB.. so some things do work. I tried reinstalling everything, tried different USB thingies, and ummm... Well this has always been there and I really have no idea if it has anything to do with this but, I have tried to right click it and fix it but it doesn't give me any help. At least maybe someone could tell me if it has something to do with the pictures lol.

    Re: Uploaded pictures distorted

One last thing to try, you may already have done - but try moving your USB keyboard to another port and see if it still works.

If it does then try the camera in the keyboard port and see if it works, if not then it could be your USB ports have a corruption. If the keyboard is hooked into the same controller which it appears to then I'm surprised that its working. It could be the keyboard causing interference on the camera/ipod when down loading things. If you have a keyboard and mouse you can hard wire try them and then see if it works.

You could try and buy a USB 2.0 card and see if that would work in your machine, rather than a new machine.
