    Memory card not initialized?
    Four dreaded words!

I have a 1 gig MS that I had been using and did back it up a while ago but I took more pictures with it when I received the “not initialized” and “would you like to format now?” problem.

I did read the sticky but my question is more about the recovery software. For the last three days I have been downloading, trying and using various programs out there and I have had the same problem. I am about to give up!

When I recover the data it only goes to the date of 9/27/2008. The last picture was taken on 12/07/2008. So where are the 2 and a half months of photos I have taken? Also the recovery software tends to repeat my pictures, resulting in me thinking I may have actually recovered the lost ones when in fact I am seeing the same set up to 9/27 twice (or in some cases three times)

I think I done all I can to try and get them back but I wanted to ask her first. Thank you for reading this and I will check back or if you would like please e-mail me if you have a suggestion on how to get two months of pictures back.

    Thanks.

    Re: Memory card not initialized?
It sound like the FAT got damaged. Most recovery software looks for the old FAT as the formating software moves the location of the FAT for usage leveling of the memory cells.

You will need a more extensive recovery program, and even then if the circuity of the memory card has failed you still my not be able to recover more than what you have already.

    Re: Memory card not initialized?
I found a more robust recovery program by R-Studio (undelete) I will see if that works. If the FAT is truely damaged this might fix it.

    Re: Memory card not initialized?
I wish that I remembered the name of the file recovery program. I was made to recover files from memory cards which had the the fat messed up. It was a free ware problem form Germany (domain) but that was about six to eight years ago. I hope some remembers it, because I remembering down loading it but my file catalog program is no longer supported and either XP service packs 2 or 3 killed it. :(
