    Finding duplicate files?

Hi there guys and gals, thought I'd post this question here as I thought you lot might have been in a similar situation once (although probably not, you're all far more organized than me!!)

my hard drive is dying and so i need to check just what I've saved onto cd and what's left on my hard drive. I could always open two windows and scroll through all 10,000+ images to find out but, let's face it, no-one wants to do that.

    so,

do any of you know of a cheap (or free ) piece of software that will allow this novice to check a cd of images against my hard drive so that i will KNOW just what I've saved in the past and what I still need to save?

many thx for any info you may have,

    Stuart.

    Re: Finding duplicate files?

Google "file duplicate finder" found 335,000 hits.
There must be one of those that is free, and works.

    Problems:
Filename wrap-around at 9999 images causes "duplicates" which aren't.
Converting .CR2 to .JPG or .TIF is no longer needed, I have Lightroom.

I probably have to write my own software.
    1) I want to check the .CR2 files are backed up
    2) if there are .JPG files of the same filename as the .CR2 I want them deleted
    3) but only if the image is the same.
    4) even if the resolution is 640x480 and the original is 10MP
    5) even if the JPG is slightly adjusted
    6) if the duplicates are in different folder trees, don't delete
    7) not just one one drive (the 4TB NAS) but also across multiple drives (the other two NAS)

It's the image comparison that'll be hard
