memory card error

my cam says memory card error and i cant open any pics from my comp. i cant even open the drive. i tried recovery programs but they say that the device is not ready. pls help. how to recover my pics?

There are companies that specialize in data recovery, but it's probably going to be expensive. I do know a place here (near Chicago) that advertises this service for photographers but there's probably someone a lot closer that can do it. I haven't used their service but they claim to be able to get data from cards when most recovery software can't.
