mac users

hello forum,

i have recently decided to buy a digital camera for an up coming trip to europe. though searching the internet brought up millions of results, i haven't the slightest clue of where to begin. the ideal camera i am looking for would be capable of taking quality photographs, and transferring them to my powerbook g4 with ease. would anybody know of a camera that meets these qualifications and is reasonably priced ($200-300)? thanks for any help you can give me.

Any camera that uses a compact flash card can transfer to your powerbook g4 with ease ... all you need is a card reader.

As for cameras, I have had good luck with canon.

It really isn't a Mac or PC specific question - digital cameras don't care what you use them with. Digital cameras shoot files, that's all. Compact flash cards are one type of memory card but many small P&S cameras use SD (secure digital) or memory stick cards and you can use those with the corresponding type of card reader too. Just make sure to get the fastest reader your computer can use (Firewire, USB2, etc). The camera should come with a USB cable to hook it up directly to the computer, but most are just USB1.1 so they'll be slow.

Nikon, Olympus, Sony and Pentax make nice cameras too. I can't really recommend any because the models change so often - my Nikon Coolpix 5000 has been discontinued for a few years but I'm still happy with it. You might find a great deal on last year's model, so don't rule that out.

Higher resolution (number of megapixels) isn't everything, either. Good 8x10's can be made from 2mp cameras, and higher resolution will buy you more features and/or manual control options.
