    Light meter help!
Help. I've signed up for a photography class and I need a light meter. I am looking at a Minolta autometer IIIF professional. Does anyone know anything about this one and if this is a good light meter?
    Thanks for your help.

The minolta should be fine. It also does double-duty as a flash meter when you use it with studio strobes.

I used a Minolta meter for a number of years and I was very happy with it. The IIIF will do the job, no question about it.

    Hello,
That meter is a good one but I have always felt that Minolta were on the expensive side. And w/ todays good flashes the GN# and auto settings are reliable to where flash meteres are not really needed anymore. (plus w/ digital you can see your results imidiately). I use gossen. Just so happens I have a meter for sale. Not flash but its one of the current models. Let me know and have fun in class.

Are you talking about on-camera flash or studio strobes? Because there is no way you can reliably and quickly set up light ratios using the histogram, for example.

If you're talking about on-camera, then I agree, but it's a moot point since flash meters don't meter on-camera flashes anyway...

I guess I'm kind of confused by your statement.
