Light, Compact, Stunning Quality Zoom for Travel? (80-2/300 ish)

Now I've got be on a hiding to nothing but I really need some recommendations here. I'm traveling with 1 bag through Asia. Last time I desperately missed a portrait\discrete distance\ perspective play lens so I'm determined to take one this time around.

I'll be in jungle both green and concrete and I will not be hiring porters! So. I need something a little less monstrous in both weight and size departments than a Nikon 70-200 f2.8.

So fellas, what d'ya reckon?
