    Lens Cleaning Problem
My workhorse lens (a Nikon 28 - 105) has recently developed a cleaning "problem." Specifically, after a cleaning, visible streaks and smears remain on the lens. It's as if the lens coatings have been damaged. (No reason to believe that this is true.)

    Any comments or suggestions?

What are you using to clean it with? Nikon's coatings (as are that of probably any modern lens) are pretty tough so unless you used something like acetone you're probably OK. (Disclaimer - this is a joke - don't ever use acetone on a lens!).

I usually use a microfiber cloth, maybe breathing on the lens and buffing it out. Make sure to blow any dust off of it first so you don't grind it into the lens element.

Once in awhile, I'll use Eclipse lens cleaning solution and Pec Pads. One or two drops on the pad (not the lens directly) and you're in good shape. Calumet Photo has it and will ship it too (B&H won't because it's considered hazardous).
