    need help accessing RAW files

I took my first RAW files tonight, but find I can't save them out of Canon Image Browser, and can't even open them from Photoshop 7.

What software do I need to be able to access these?

Oh wait, I can save them as TIFFs out of File Viewer Utility. But I can't access the settings. Do I need to update Photoshop, or can I just get a plugin?

save them as TIFFs and then open the TIFFs in PS, that's how you do it, although it's slow and unintuitive

    Raw

To access RAW files, you need software or an application that has some sort of RAW converter. Photoshop 7 doesn't have one, but CS does. The one in the File Viewer Utility does an o.k. job, for a free program.

Convert it to TIFF and you no longer have access to the adjustment tools offered by the RAW format.
