I lose all my settings when changing batteries
I have a 2 yr old Olympus 750 ultra zoom. I lose all my presets when I change batteries. I called Olympus, the told me that the capacitor that holds the settings is depleted, their charge for repair-flat fee-$150.00. Is this excessive?, can I get this repaired by a local shop for less? Thx!!

Check your manual. There is probably a CMOS battery that needs to be changed. Just like computers, most electronic cameras these days have a CMOS that keeps all your settings, and it usually has a battery that unfortunately needs to be changed periodically. Some cameras probably use a flash rom for keeping settings, eliminating the need for a battery, but it doesn't sound like yours is one of them.

It's called a Gold Capacitor and it's rated in Farads not ufd. Its an electrolytic and they can leak or dry out. The flat fee is not excessive as they most likely just replace the curciut boeard.
