How wide is wide enough!?!? (glass help)
    'lil help here??? :blush2:

I went to shoot the Seattle Pacific science center as it was all lit up in seahawk colors :D (love my Hawks!!)

    An example of the result:

    http://www.subiegal.com/inspiredphot...nce-center.jpg

My wide angle lens = Sigma 18-50mm

I discovered much to my severe displeasure
that this lens was nowhere near wide enough to capture all of the towers in one shot
(There are 5 towers - only 3 shown as that was all I could crowd in)

Even in a "portrait/horizontal" frame, I could not capture all 5 from head to toe

Moving the tripod "back" from the subject is not an option
We're working with a very condensed space within the Seattle Center "fairgrounds"

There will be other situations I feel,
where I will just be mega-ticked that I do not have the correct hardware to do the job.

I'm shooting with the Canon Digi Rebel XT
I shoot for the hell of it. I'm no pro, but do enjoy the hobby.

I do not have an endless supply of funds for this hobby
(I have other hobbies which are much more expensive)

But I know and understand that the glass makes the camera.

will either of these help me get the desired capture?
If not, are there any other suggestions?

    option 1, canon

    option 2 sigma

    Your suggestions/input are appreciated
    Many thanks,
    Jamie

I googled the center for images and see several with all the arches but then composition is limited as to where they were taken from.
I will be watching for more replys to your question.
Its the sensor multiplication thing I guess.

I can sympathize, and own the 10-20 Sigma. It's really a nice lens for the money but not being a Canon shooter I don't know about their lens. One thing - with a lens that wide, when you aim it up you'll get even more perspective shift so the towers will look like they're falling over backwards. Going from 18 to 10 is almost twice as wide, so you might be able to keep the camera more level (towers to the top of the frame) and crop the bottom out. Looks like you did a nice job given the situation! The only critique I'd make is that it looks a little to the right of level. A hotshoe mounted bubble will help a lot for shots like this.

The panorama program I use does have a perspective correction in it. The only thing it wants is the files of the same size. I would just take as many shots as needed to get all the towers. And then us one of the many panorama programs to assemble the final photo.

oh! now there's something I did not think of.

I'll research some of those programs.....
I do appreciate the feedback all. :)

Why not try the software that comes with the Canon, I find it excellent for the panoramas I've taken.

There are other uses for a super wide lens, and there is software to correct distortions.(none of which I have used)
    This was taken with a Tokina 12-24 lens wide open @ f4 @ 12mm.
I say go fior the sigma 10-20 lens. There may be a differance in image quality from the canon lens, but I doubt it would be noticeable to you and not worth $200 if it were.

    thanks Mark for your input.

I will likely pick up one of the lenses

and I'll probably also begin to experiment with some software options.

    cant hurt to learn :)

    thanks all
