How to get a calendar made?
People have been telling me recently, after seeing some of my work, that I should put together a 2006 calendar of local scenes. I like the idea, and I know it would sell (there's nothing like it being done around here) and I am getting ideas for existing images and future images I would like to include in it, but the problem.... how do I get calendars made?
Of course the quality would have to be good, but also the cost needs to be low enough so I can price them to sell and still make a little $$, if only to put gas in the tank or something... this would be more an opportunity to get my name out into my little community than to make a bundle of cash... unless that can also be done :) .
So how do I do it?
I should add that I've been playing around with monthly calendars for friends/family/work, but only for fun, no money (my home printer is not very good). Attached is an example of next month's, which my boss has got hanging at the front desk at work for all the guests to see. I've considered having a local printer make up monthlies for sale as well... is this a better idea? Let people see my face and my work every month, and even learn to anticipate next month's image?
Thanks in advance for any and all help!
Re: How to get a calendar made?
This is something that I have looked into in the past also. I didn't go ahead with the idea at the time, because I didn't have the images I wanted. I do plan on going ahead with it in the next few months tho. A while back, I did a search on the net and found lots of companies that will make a calender out of your images. The biggest problem that I found with these companies was the minimum quantity that they required. Sure they could make your calender for around $5 each, but you have to order 2,000 of them. :s So I looked into having local printers do them, and the price was anywhere between $15-$20 each. I'm planning on printing a few for Christmas gifts, and maybe a few extras to sell later on this year. I know Mpix does 12 month calenders but I think they only use 1 photo, and then have all 12 months below it. Not what I wanted. Do some searches, and check local shops and see what you come up with. Let us know what you find out, and good luck!

Here is a link to a site I found a while back when I was going my initial search. They can print 25 for less than $10/pc. The more you order, the cheaper they get per unit. I know nothing about this company, so I don't know what the quality is like.

I like to use calendero.com. They are very flexible and the support is great. I think you can get quantity discounts as well.
Good luck!

You might want to check out Snapfish and Kodak. Just enter Snapfish in your search engine.

I've used Kodak Gallery and Costco's online Photo Center. Costco is cheaper, currently $9.99.
It's hard to get calendars made inexpensively enough to make a good profit.
