    FOV different in RAW?

    Hi all,
    Just yesterday i noticed something unusual.
    I shoot RAW+JPG and when i viewed them on my computer i noticed that the RAW file had more field of view than the JPG - the JPG image was a subset of the RAW image!
    It was like shooting at 100mm for the RAW and 105mm for the JPG!
    Is this possible? - Not that i mind, it's better to have more FOV

    I've never heard of this, but I shoot only RAW (without JPG). What kind of camera and software are you using?

    I haven't heard of this either. Maybe i'll give it a try to see what happens.

    I have never heard of this either. We need to know what camera you are using.

    I'm using Oly E-3 with 40-150/f4.0-5.6, shooting in aperture priority at 150mm/f5.6 at ground level (so the camera was stable). Same thing is happening to my old E520 i tested today!
    I've never noticed before since i was interested more in the subject i was shooting and composing through the viewfinder.
    Both RAW&JPG viewed with Photoshop, ACDSee, XnView and Olympus Master 2, so i think it's not the software.
    I'll resize and post a sample and the EXIF later today from a test picture i took.

    GOT IT!
    Somehow the camera is writing RAW at 3720x2800 and JPG at 3648x2736 with the same magnification!
    That's why the RAW image had more FOV.
    Don't know if this is happening with other cam's but it's nice to know!

    JPEG compression is easier at multiples of powers of two.
    I think it's in multiples of 16, but I'm not sure.
    I know images that are not multiples can't be rotated without re-encoding and losing data.

    I've also heard that, about multiples of powers of two, but didn't give any attention.
    Well, anyway i'll still shoot RAW+JPG also since JPG it's easier to view on any computer (RAW needs some software).
    Next time i'll try to check if the FOV of the viewfinder (or the LCD) is identical to RAW or to JPG and i'll post it just for the info.

    It might has something to do with how the camera is processing the jpeg image. The RAW files aren't processed in camera, but the jpegs are.
