Help! Err9 again! on Rebel XT
Two weeks ago I purchased a Canon 35mm/f2.0. From the outset I kept getting err99 every time I put it on the lens, and it got progressly worse. I just got a 2nd one and after about 25 shots, I started getting err99 again, but less frequently.. It just started happening again.
What does this mean? I've done my homework, and I haven't found one complaint about this. So, it can't be a lens incompatabiliy or design problem.
When I purchased the 2nd lens yesterday, the salesman told me if this happens with this lens, rather than send it back, ship both the camera and lens to Canon. I hesitate to do that when I can return the lens and get my money back. Not to mantion the fact that I don't want my camera gone for a few weeks. BTW, I've never had err9 before on the XT - and I've used the XT with 4 other lenses numerous times.
Please - I would like some advice/suggestions - as to what to do.
Thank you.
Liz

Hey Liz, sorry to hear your having this problem again. I googled Canon Err99, and found this blog site. I think some of these ideas were mentioned in your previous post also. If not, they are worth a try. Good luck.

Re: Help! Err9 again! on Rebel XT
Liz,
I would be inclined to ring Canon USA and discuss it with them, explaining everything. You might find that it is the camera. But from the last thread, you mentioned it was tight to connect. Is it the same with the new lens you have gotten as a replacement. Also what happened to the 200mm lens I thought you were going to get, that turned out to be the 35mm lens, maybe fate is trying to tell you something.
I certainly wouldn't be happy with this happening to me at all.
Cleaning the contacts is a good idea, but if you are like me with equipment, you take extremely good care of it just like I do, so I don't think that will solve the problem. I think it is an electronics problem that needs to be rectified maybe by the service technicians at Canon.

I still want this lens, but it's $650 - the 35mm is $200. I can afford the $200, but have to wait until my birthday - I'll be 65 in September or my income tax return for the other.
I'm inclined to agree - it think it's electronic. I keep everything very clean. I will call Canon - good idea.
Thanks Peter - yes it is discouraging.
