    Broken Sony dsc-s500

Ok so I was changing the batteries in my Sony dsc-s500, and I dropped it! This broke the plastic tab that holds the battery door shut. The camera doesn't work now, so i'm hoping that there is a cheap fix for this problem????? Any advice

Hm. I doubt you can replace that broken piece too easily but you may be able to jury rig it closed. The problem is that the batteries usually push back against the door, so using tape to hold it shut probably won't work in the long haul.

There's got to be an ingenious solution here

There has to be a solution your right, idk what it is though. I tried taping it shut and it worked for a while but it's more trouble than it's worth now. Radioshack quoted me $120 to fix it....for that I'll buy another one on eBay. Imo it's a stupid design by Sony, as the piece that holds the door shut is a super thin half milimeter long piece of plastic.

If you're thinking of buying another here's some advice. I had several point and shoot sony DSCs and they all seemed to suffer from stupid design faults. When my last one was stolen I changed to a little canon and it is a hundred times better than the sony and more or less the same price. The pictures are much better and canon seem to have actually thought about the design before they released the vcamera rather than just beta test on the first customers. Personally I would never touch a sony again.

Thing with replacing it is that I'm a mountain bike racer and I've gotta dump money into my bike before spring. Plus I'm in high school and can only work 20 hours a week. So a new camera isn't in the budget right now. I was kind of hoping for a cheap fix

    Ridicules as this sounds,

Perhaps you can put a new battery in and super glue it closed? It may hold up fine if the battery only pushes back lightly. If you don't use too much glue, you could easily pry it apart with a screwdriver when it comes time to replace the battery..

That would be fine if It didn't take plain old aa batteries. I can't plug the camera in to charge it, I have to remove my rechargable batteries to charge them.

You can find very small sheet metal screw with a small fender washer and just drill a small hole next to where the latch was, and use the screw and fender washer to hold the door closed?
